What Teams Have Won Over 100 Trophies?

When it comes to measuring the success of a team, the number of Trophies matters a lot. And there are some clubs whose names have become household names given their fast-paced success and rich Football History. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus, etc are some of the most famous clubs known for their illustrious football history and domination across European football. 

However, when compared globally they are not even placed among the top five in terms of trophies count. They might be the most popular and successful teams across the world but they are definitely not top clubs with the highest number of trophies won. But, in this article we will only consider the number of major trophies won by a team. So, let’s begin.Premier League clubs

1. Al Ahly

Al Ahly is not an unpopular Egyptian professional club. Surprisingly, this Egyptian club is ranked top among the most successful clubs in world football in terms of number of Trophies won. Al Ahly is the most decorated club of the Egyptian Premier League which is the first division of the Egypt Football League System. The unexpectedly successful club had won a total of 118 trophies which include 37 national Cup titles, 42 national league titles and 11 national Super Cup titles. 

2. Rangers

With an impressive number (116) of trophies, Rangers has become the world’s second club with the highest number of trophies. This Scottish Club is High on achievements. Starting with 55 Scottish League Championship titles, Rangers’ giants have clinched Scottish Cup 33 times, the Scottish League Cup 27 times and domestic treble 7 times. In addition, Rangers also have achieved a joint world record for a domestic league as well as a global record shared with Celtic. 

3. Club Nacional

Having won 114 trophies, Club Nacional is ranked third most successful club in terms of trophies won. The list of Nacional’s achievements include three Copa Libertadores, 22 FIFA as well as CONMEBOL recognised awards. The Uruguayan club is an all time competitor. To prove this, Nacional has also won Copa Intercontinental tournament in each of three attempts. 

4. Penarol

Penarol is a South American club which holds the record for winning 108 trophies making it the club with fourth most Trophies. These 108 trophies consist of five Copa Libertadores titles, and three Intercontinental Cup triumphs. These major trophies made him the leading player in International competitions. Celtic is quite a well-known name which most of you people have heard of. You would be surprised to know that this fifth ranked club has been dominating Scottish football for the last few years. Yet, they can not be called the best or most successful club of the country. Scottish League titles are accountable for 51 of the 106 trophies it won in total. Also, Celtic is a European Cup winner. 

6. Barcelona

Barcelona Football Club is one of the most successful football clubs in the world with an impressive trophy haul. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Barcelona had won a total of 95 major trophies across various competitions. The club has been particularly dominant in the domestic competitions of Spain, having won La Liga 26 times and the Copa del Rey a staggering 31 times. 

In addition, Barcelona has also won the Supercopa de España 13 times, which is a competition played between the winners of La Liga and the Copa del Rey. In European competition, Barcelona has won the prestigious UEFA Champions League five times, along with four UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, and three Inter-Cities Fairs Cups.

7. Real Madrid

Real Madrid had won a total of 94 major trophies, making it one of the most decorated clubs in football history. Club’s dominance in Spanish football is reflected in its 34 La Liga titles and 19 Copa del Rey titles. The club has also won the Supercopa de España 11 times. Which is a competition played between the winners of La Liga and the Copa del Rey. It has also been highly successful in European competitions, having won the UEFA Champions League a record 13 times, including three consecutive titles between 2016 and 2018. The club has also won the UEFA Cup twice, the European Super Cup four times, and the Intercontinental Cup three times.

In addition to its domestic and European success, Real Madrid has also won four FIFA Club World Cups, cementing its status as a global powerhouse. The club’s trophy cabinet also includes one Copa Eva Duarte, a now-defunct competition that was played in Spain in the 1940s.

8. Benfica

Benfica has won a total of 37 Primeira Liga titles, which is the highest number of titles won by any club in Portugal. The first title was won in the 1935-1936 season, and the most recent title was won in the 2018-2019 season.

In addition to the domestic league, Benfica has also won the Taca de Portugal 29 times. The Taca de Portugal is a knockout competition featuring teams from all tiers of Portuguese football. Benfica has won the competition more times than any other club. The first Taca de Portugal trophy was won by Benfica in 1940, and the most recent trophy was won in 2020.

9. Olympiaco

Olympiacos Football Club is a professional football club based in Piraeus, Greece. It is one of the most successful football clubs in Greece. It has won numerous domestic and international trophies throughout its history. In total, Olympiacos has won 46 domestic trophies, including 45 Greek Super League titles. Which is the highest number of titles won by any club in Greece. The club has also won 28 Greek Cups, 5 Greek Super Cups, and 1 Greek League Cup. The first domestic trophy was won in the 1947-1948 season, and the most recent was won in the 2020-2021 season.

In terms of international trophies, Olympiacos has won the UEFA Europa League once, in the 2011-2012 season. The club has also reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. On three occasions, in the 1998-1999, 1999-2000, and 2013-2014 seasons.

10. Porto

In total, Porto has won 74 domestic trophies, including 29 Primeira Liga titles, 17 Taca de Portugal titles, 22 Taca da Liga titles, and 6 Supertaca Candido de Oliveira titles. The club has also won 2 UEFA Champions League titles, 2 UEFA Europa League titles, 1 UEFA Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup, and 2 Intercontinental Cups.

The first domestic title was won in the 1934-1935 season, and the most recent was won in the 2019-2020 season. The club’s first international trophy was the UEFA Cup in the 2002-2003 season. And the most recent was the UEFA Youth League in the 2018-2019 season.
